HOME PAGE ENTRY OCTOBER 2018

I have decided to archive my home page entries by adding them to my blog when I update my home page. Here is my first archived entry – with the small addition of my original sample from my latest work, Most Beautiful. Enjoy!

Why hello! Thanks for being here and welcome! This has been a year of setting goals, witnessing the ebb and flow of a year cycle with twin babies (I had twins in May 2017), and realizing how much I can do if I set clear intentions. One of my first intentions is to stay in better touch with you about my work and the growth of my music. This fall I am making a commitment to regularly update this area to talk about I am working on, my process, as well as announcing upcoming concerts and events.

Oh so much to talk about, but all I really want to say is COME SEE SIDEBAND! (dates to the right)

We start our bay area tour on Saturday 10/27 at UC Berkeley – CNMAT, then south to Mills College on Monday 10/29, then across the bay to Stanford and CCRMA on Thursday 11/1. We are doing old pieces and some new pieces including a composition of mine titled Most Beautiful. It is a setting of the remaining fragment of “Adonis” by Praxilla, a female poet from 450 B.C.E.  This poem is Adonis’s response to the question posed to him by the Shades of the Underworld after his death: “What was the most beautiful thing you left behind?” Adonis replied, “Most beautiful of all the things that I have left is the light of the sun; next, gleaming stars and the face of the moon. Then cucumbers in the summer, and apples and pears.” I love this text and can’t wait to sing it from the middle of my rope instrument for rope, multiple laptops, and GameTrak tether controllers. This is only the beginning, as the piece evolves, the melody will begin to echo around me coming from various smartphones, and the ensemble must work to unify the melody, listening for unison within the captured vibrato.
