In Galdr Anima, written as an incantation for Henry Moore’s sculpture Oval with Points and performed as a part of a sculpture walk, So Percussion performs surrounding the sculpture. The composition builds to a crescendo as if the primitive spirit of the sculpture has come to life. After this build, the ensemble members clear the sonic palette by each playing a high sine tone from their smartphone that descends in a glissando as the player’s arm slowly falls. In this moment, the ensemble uses the phone as an electronic instrument unifying sound and movement so that the sonic unison is also a visual unison interrupting the visual and sonic polyphony that preceded it.
